Hair Colour

Hair Colour: permanent and tone-on-tone L'Oréal Excellence, Casting Crème Gloss or Palette, Manic Panic and Arctic Fox shades, lighteners. Colour at home.

What can you find in our hair colour range?

Our hair colour range covers every need, from a simple tint to a complete change. Permanent colour changes your colour lastingly and covers white hair. It stays until the roots grow out, which you then touch up.

A colour box generally contains a tube of colour, a developer, gloves and an after-colour treatment. One box is enough for short to medium-length hair; allow two for long hair or very thick hair. Read the instructions right through before you start, as each brand has its own development times.

Tone-on-tone colour, such as L’Oréal Paris Casting Crème Gloss, refreshes your colour with an ammonia-free formula, according to the brand, and fades gradually with shampooing. Fantasy colour, with Manic Panic or Arctic Fox, brings blue, pink or purple to a light base. It fades with washing, more or less quickly depending on the brand and your hair.

We also offer lighteners to prepare for a bright colour or to create highlights. Men will find their products in the men’s hair and beard colour range, with simple gels to apply on grey hair and beard hair. These gels go on in just a few minutes.

How do you choose your hair colour?

Each colour has a number. The first digit indicates the depth of the colour, from 1 for black to 10 for very light blonde. The digit after the point or slash indicates the tone: ash, gold, copper or mahogany, depending on the brand. A 7.1, for example, is an ash blonde.

Stay within two levels at most of your natural colour for a result with no surprises. A standard colour does not lighten a colour that is already dyed: to go from dyed brown to blonde, you first need a lightener or a hairdresser. To go darker, however, a permanent colour is enough.

To cover white hair, choose a permanent colour such as L’Oréal Excellence or Schwarzkopf Palette. To refresh a colour or try out a shade, tone-on-tone colour is a lighter option. Fantasy colours show up better on bleached hair, almost white.

For the tone, rely on the shade chart printed on the back of the box: it shows the result depending on your starting colour. Ash tones tone down red or orange shades, whereas gold and copper tones add warmth.

How do you get a good result when colouring at home?

Do an allergy test 48 hours before each colouring, even with your usual brand: one drop of product behind the ear or in the crook of the elbow. If the skin turns red, swells or itches, do not apply the colour. This test must be repeated every time, as an allergy can appear after years without any problem. Also avoid black henna tattoos, which increase the risk of an allergy to hair dyes.

Apply the colour to dry, unwashed hair, wearing the gloves provided in the box. For a touch-up, start with the roots, then draw the colour through the lengths for the last few minutes. Respect the development time shown: leaving it on for longer does not make the colour cover better.

Protect your skin with a little rich cream along the forehead and around the ears, to avoid stains. Cover your shoulders with an old towel, as colour marks fabric for good.

After colouring, wash your hair with a shampoo for coloured hair and avoid very hot water, which makes the shade bleed. Also wait 48 hours before the first shampoo, to let the colour set. Our hair care products help you look after a bright colour.
