Guide

Comment construire votre routine ?

Étape 1

Laver

What can you find in hair care?

Our hair care range brings together everything that washes, nourishes and protects your hair, from root to tip. Shampoos cleanse the scalp and remove sebum, dust and leftover styling products. Conditioners and masks then smooth the surface of the hair, known as the cuticle, to leave it soft and easy to detangle.

Leave-in treatments stay on the lengths: creams, serums and detangling milks protect them from friction and heat all day long. Hair oils nourish dry ends and add shine in just a few drops. Scalp care products are made for the skin of the scalp when it feels itchy, gets greasy quickly or has flakes.

We have selected salon brands such as Kérastase, L’Oréal Professionnel, Olaplex, K18 and Moroccanoil. You will also find well-known high-street brands, such as Elvive and Pantene, for simple everyday care. According to the brand, Olaplex and K18 work on the internal bonds of the hair, the ones affected by bleaching and heat.

A salon treatment often has a more concentrated formula: a Kérastase or Olaplex mask is used in small amounts. High-street brands offer large bottles, practical for a whole family. Many ranges also come in a travel size, ideal for trying a product before buying the full size.

How do you choose a hair care product for your hair type?

First look at the condition of your lengths. Dry, dull hair asks for nourishment, with plant butters and oils. Fine, flat hair prefers light formulas that do not weigh it down. Damaged or brittle hair needs more intensive care, often with proteins or keratin.

Coloured hair loses its shine a little more with every wash. A range for coloured hair cleanses gently and, according to the brand, helps the shade last longer. Bleached hair is the most fragile: bond-care products such as the Olaplex range have been designed with it in mind.

The texture of your hair matters as much as its condition. Curly hair often lacks moisture and loves rich creams: our curly and coily hair section is dedicated to it. Straight, fine hair is happy with a light conditioner and a detangling spray.

Your scalp and your lengths do not always have the same needs. Roots that get greasy within a day call for a mild shampoo, which you can use often, and no mask applied at the roots. Skin that feels tight reacts better to a fragrance-free formula. If you want more targeted products, browse our hair loss and hair growth section.

In what order should you apply your hair care products?

In the shower, shampoo comes first: massage it into the scalp with your fingertips, then rinse. Conditioner comes next on the lengths and ends, for 1 to 2 minutes. The mask replaces it once or twice a week and is left on for 5 to 10 minutes.

After the shower, squeeze out your hair in a microfibre towel, pressing without rubbing. Then apply the leave-in treatment on damp hair, followed by a heat protector if you use a hairdryer or a straightener. Oil goes on last, at the rate of two or three drops warmed between your palms.

A scalp treatment, such as a lotion or a serum, is applied parting by parting on the skin and is rarely rinsed out. Some products have their own place: Olaplex No. 3 is applied before shampooing, whereas K18 is applied afterwards, on towel-dried hair. Always read the instructions before your first use.

The rhythm depends on your roots. Greasy hair is washed often, with a mild formula; dry or curly hair is washed two to three times a week. For most heads of hair, one mask a week is enough to keep the lengths supple.
