Hair Supplements Luxéol, Arkopharma Forcapil, Granions, Oenobiol and gummies, with biotin, zinc and selenium. Food supplements: read the label.
Hair supplements are food supplements, in capsules, tablets or chewable gummies. They contain vitamins, minerals and amino acids, as listed on each pack. They are taken by mouth, whereas a serum is applied to the scalp.
Biotin, also called vitamin B8, zinc and selenium are among the ingredients often listed on the packaging of these products. No food supplement can promise to stop hair loss or to make hair grow.
Many formulas add cystine and methionine, two amino acids found in keratin, the protein that hair is made of. Others contain iron, B vitamins or plant extracts such as millet, a cereal rich in minerals.
We offer well-known pharmacy brands: Luxéol, Forcapil by Arkopharma, Granions and Oenobiol. You will also find fruit-flavoured gummies, for those who do not like swallowing capsules. Capsules and tablets, for their part, have no taste and slip easily into a bag.
If you are looking for a complete formula, choose one that combines B vitamins, zinc and sulphur-containing amino acids. Forcapil follows this principle, with biotin, cystine and methionine. Other formulas are richer in amino acids and zinc: compare the lists on the packs.
The format matters if you are to stick with a course. Capsules are taken in one or two doses a day, with a glass of water. Gummies are chewed like a sweet, yet often contain sugar: read the label if you watch your diet. Choose the format that you will take without effort every day, throughout the course.
If you are pregnant, breastfeeding or following a treatment, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before starting. Sudden or very heavy hair loss calls for a blood test, as an iron deficiency is a common cause. Only a doctor can confirm such a deficiency and prescribe iron if needed.
To combine it with scalp products, you can pair the course with our hair serums, applied to the scalp. The supplement is taken by mouth, the serum is applied directly to the skin of the scalp: the two are not alternatives.
A course generally lasts three months, or as stated on the pack. Take your capsules at a fixed time, for example at breakfast, so as not to forget them. Many people repeat a course at the change of season, in autumn or spring.
Respect the daily dose shown on the box: taking more does not speed anything up. Do not add together two supplements that contain the same vitamins. If you already take a multivitamin, show both boxes to your pharmacist. A supplement does not replace a varied diet that is balanced.
Biotin can interfere with some blood tests, in particular thyroid tests. Tell the laboratory or your doctor that you are taking it before a blood test. Keep the boxes out of the reach of children, especially gummies, which look like sweets.
For a complete routine, wash your hair with our care shampoos. All our products are brought together in the hair loss and hair growth range.
